Edmunds.com True Cost to Own Awards Include Nissan's Cube

Edmunds.com has just identified the top cars in each class for the True Cost to Own Awards for model year 2010. These winning vehicles are the value leaders of Edmunds cost-of-owning estimates.

After gathering data from July 2009 through April 2010, Edmunds applied its True Cost to Own algorithms to estimate the five-year cost of owning each model year 2010 new vehicle currently on the market. From there, Edmunds.com separated vehicles into comparable segments, according to their body type and average MSRP.

Costs used by Edmunds included financing, depreciation, taxes and fees, insurance, fuel, maintenance, repairs and any federal tax credit that may be available. Adding all of these together can give a more accurate picture of which cars cost less overall.

The awarded vehicles include Nissan's Cube model. It is highest on the list for lowest overall ownership costs in its respective segment. From data collected, the Cube has consistently maintained the lowest cost of ownership and gives smart consumers the best value for their money.

The label, which will be part of the Nissan LEAF's Monroney label, is now ready for placement on the vehicles in anticipation of the December launch. After completion of five-cycle testing, the EPA has rated the Nissan LEAF with an MPG equivalent of 106 city, 92 highway for a combined 99 MPGe. This calculation is based on the EPA's formula of 33.7kW-hrs being equivalent to one gallon gasoline energy. In addition, the label displays a charging time of seven hours on a 240V charge and a driving range of 73 miles, based on the five-cycle tests using varying driving conditions and climate controls. At the Los Angeles International Auto Show, the Quest and Murano CrossCabriolet were introduced. Both are quite unique vehicles, and while we question the CrossCabriolet???s purpose, we like to see automakers taking risks. There was another Nissan car was introduced at the show though ??? the updated 2012 GT-R. That would, no doubt, have to be our favorite of Nissan???s introductions at L.A.The current GT-R was introduced in the United States in July 2008 as a 2009 model, and while not much time as passed, Nissan isn???t content to rest on its laurels. For 2012, the GT-R has gotten some significant enhancements to its performance credentials ??? and they show with the car???s 0-60 time.
